Hello everyone! I thought I'd share a few decorating tips and tricks with y'all today. Now, I'm by no means even close to what you'd call a "decorator." I'm sure professional decorators would look at my house and think "well...she needs some help." Ha! But I have learned a few tricks for the casual decorators out there. Maybe that's what I am... a casual decorator. Lol!
See this basket just sitting there looking pretty? Well, it actually has a purpose...
The blanket is covering up some cables in the back of the armoire. I couldn't stand for those cables to be showing and this little trick took care of that for me. :)
The blanket folds over the cables and helps to hide them.
I think I may have shared this one before, but if you're new here, you might appreciate it. This lamp cord is black, which kind of matches the table. So, I just taped it to the table leg so it wouldn't show. In real life, the tape doesn't show up as much as it does in these pics.
The problem was that after it hit the floor, it stood out like a sore thumb on the light colored carpet. So, I painted the little section that goes from the base of the table to under the sofa. Problem solved. :)
Here's how it looks from a distance. Can't really see the cord, can you?
Here's our faux wainscoting in the dining room. This was done pre-blogging, so I don't have pics, but basically we just painted the bottom half of the wall in a semi gloss white. Then we made those little boxes out of wood and nailed them up and painted them too.
Here's a closer look. If you get close, you can see the texturing on the walls and you'll know we didn't do "real" wainscoting.
I'm really happy with how it turned out and it was a lot cheaper and easier to do it this way.
I think you all know by now how much I hate cords showing. Well, I have this lamp in my kitchen. See that plate? Its sole purpose is covering up the lamp cord.
See? I just gathered the extra cord and tucked it under the easel.
Here's another easy update for the windows. We kind of faked the window casing.
We just painted the insides of the windows with a semi gloss white paint, then put trim around the windows and also on top.
We put a larger piece of trim on top to finish it off.
We also did the same thing in the dining room (shown below), living room, and kitchen.
Well, I hope y'all got some good tips/ideas here. Stay tuned for part 2 of my tips and tricks coming soon. :)
What tips and tricks do you use in your home?
I recently got a new chair for the living room and I'll share that this week too. I found a couple of chairs I liked and put up a poll on Instagram for people to vote on which one they liked best. I bought the one they voted on, but then saw another one I liked even more. It's literally been like musical chairs around here. :)
